What full-mouth implant care at our Katy office involves for Sugar Land, Fulshear and Cypress patients: the drive, each visit, maintenance and what to compare.

If you live in Sugar Land, Fulshear or Cypress and you are looking into full-mouth dental implants, you have probably noticed two things. There are offices close to home that offer All-on-4 or All-on-X, and there are specialist teams a short drive away. Our Katy office is one of the second kind. This article is about what choosing it would actually involve: how far the drive is, what each visit is for, which appointments need a driver, how the years of maintenance fit into your calendar, and what to compare if you are also talking with an office closer to your house. It is written for patients from Sugar Land, Fulshear, Cypress, Richmond and the rest of west Houston.

The short answer

Full-mouth implant care at our Katy office usually means a consultation, a planning stage, one long surgery day, a healing period with follow-up visits and several appointments for the final teeth, followed by maintenance visits for as long as you have the implants. From central Sugar Land, Fulshear or Cypress, Katy is roughly 15 to 18 miles away by road.

Most of those visits are routine and short, and you can drive yourself to them. Surgery day is the exception: if you have sedation or general anesthesia, someone needs to drive you home and stay with you afterward. The part people tend to underestimate is not the surgery. It is the maintenance that follows, which goes on for years. That is why the distance question deserves a few minutes of thought before you commit to any office, near or far.

How far is our Katy office from Sugar Land, Fulshear and Cypress?

Our office is at 707 S Fry Rd Ste 150 in Katy. By our estimate, it is about 15 to 18 miles by road from central Sugar Land, Fulshear or Cypress, or roughly half an hour each way without heavy traffic.

Those figures come from a standard mapping estimate between the town centers and our address, so treat them as a starting point. Where you live in each town, the time of day and the usual west Houston traffic will change the picture. Someone in a Cypress neighborhood near Fry Road may be closer than the estimate, and someone on the far side of Sugar Land at rush hour will be further. Richmond is in the same range.

For a single appointment, half an hour is easy. Over a full-arch plan, it adds up to a number of round trips spread across several months, then a few trips a year after that. It is worth doing that math honestly. For most people in these suburbs, the drive is manageable. For a few, a closer office will simply fit their life better, and that is a reasonable choice.

Close to home or a drive to Katy: what actually matters

Distance is one factor. The bigger ones are who plans and performs each phase of your treatment, how clearly the temporary and final stages are explained, and who will take care of the implants and teeth afterward.

There are dentists in Sugar Land, Fulshear and Cypress who place full-arch implants, and we are not going to tell you any of them are the wrong choice. What we can do is suggest what to compare, wherever you go. Ask who designs the teeth, who places the implants and who manages anesthesia. In some practices one dentist does all three; in others, separate specialists do. The American Dental Association recognizes prosthodontics, oral and maxillofacial surgery, periodontics and dental anesthesiology as separate dental specialties, and you can check any Texas dentist's license through the Texas State Board of Dental Examiners.

Ask how the plan was made. A three-dimensional CBCT scan shows bone volume, nerve position and the sinuses in a way a flat X-ray cannot. Ask what you will wear while you heal and when the final teeth are made, because many ads blur the difference. Ask where the teeth are made and whether the people making them will ever see you. And ask what happens if something goes wrong in year three. Our article on how to avoid failed implant dentistry and costly mistakes covers the warning signs in more detail.

At Regional Implant Centers, planning runs through our RISE Protocol. A prosthodontist maps out the bite, facial support, speech and the long-term plan for your new teeth before surgery begins. An oral surgeon or implant surgeon builds the foundation, and a dedicated anesthesia provider focuses on your safety, comfort and monitoring. Lab technicians shape the final teeth. Our post on what makes the RISE Protocol different explains the idea behind that split.

What each visit is for

A full-arch plan unfolds in stages, and each stage has its own kind of appointment. Your written plan will list yours; the outline below is the usual shape, not a fixed schedule.

A phone consultation, if you want to start from home

You can book either an in-office or a phone consultation through our scheduling page. A phone call is a sensible first step if you want to understand the process, ask about insurance or decide whether the drive makes sense before taking time off work. It cannot replace an exam and imaging, but it can tell you whether an in-office visit is worth your morning.

The in-office consultation and 3D imaging

At the first in-office visit, you meet the team, talk through your goals and have a clinical evaluation, with 3D CBCT imaging when it is indicated. Qualified patients receive a complimentary consultation, CBCT scan and insurance benefits evaluation. Our post on digital planning before dental implant surgery explains what the scans and models are used for. Plan on this visit taking longer than a regular dental checkup, and bring the items listed further down.

Treatment planning and your written estimate

After the evaluation, the specialists review your case together in what we call a collaborative specialist treatment conference: implant options, the design of the teeth, the timeline and the financial side. Before anything begins, you receive a detailed treatment plan that outlines the recommended care, estimated insurance benefits, financing options and your expected out-of-pocket investment. Some patients also need a note or clearance from their physician before surgery, depending on their health and medicines. If that applies to you, it is easier to start early, especially if your doctors are in Sugar Land or the Medical Center rather than Katy.

Surgery day

Surgery is the longest appointment and the one that needs the most planning at home. Depending on your plan, it can include removing failing teeth, bone grafting or shaping, and placing the implants. Some patients leave with a fixed temporary set of teeth the same day, but that depends on the case, and same-day teeth are always temporary and only for patients who qualify. If you are having sedation or general anesthesia, you will need an adult to drive you home. The American Society of Anesthesiologists advises having someone with you for at least the first 24 hours after general anesthesia, and for at least several hours after sedation. For a Fulshear or Cypress family, that usually means one person blocking out the whole day.

Healing, check-ups and the temporary teeth

The months after surgery are mostly about healing. Expect follow-up visits to check how the gums and implants are settling, adjust the temporary teeth and confirm that you are ready for the next step. The Katy office calls this stage "temporary prosthesis and healing verification." These are usually shorter visits, and most people drive themselves. This is also where living half an hour away is an advantage: a sore spot or a bite that feels off can be looked at soon, instead of waiting for a long trip.

The final teeth

When healing is confirmed, work on the final teeth begins. That involves records and scans, often including photogrammetry, which captures the three-dimensional position of the implants so the final teeth can be made to fit passively. Then come one or more try-ins and the delivery itself. Our in-house dental lab is at the Katy office, where technicians work beside the surgical and restorative team. Being able to see you in person helps them refine tooth shape, shade, lip support and smile line. For a patient coming from Sugar Land, that means the people making your teeth are in the same building as the people checking your bite. Our post on how prosthodontists design implant-supported teeth explains what those try-ins are looking for.

Maintenance is the part that lasts the longest

After the final teeth are delivered, you will have regular professional maintenance visits for years. At our office, that care is handled through a required Maintenance Package and takes place at Regional Implant Centers, so the long-term drive matters more than the surgery-day drive.

Implants do not get cavities, but the gums and bone around them can become inflamed, screws can loosen and the teeth can wear. A 2026 review in Periodontology 2000 by Wang, Monje and colleagues reports that long-term studies consistently show regular supportive care after implant treatment markedly reduces implant loss and peri-implant disease, and it names non-compliance with maintenance as a major predictor of problems returning. The authors describe recall visits every 3 to 6 months for moderate- to high-risk patients and up to 12 months for low-risk patients, with the interval set for each person. Your own schedule will come from your team, not from a review article, but the point stands: the visits keep coming.

At Regional Implant Centers, protection after the final prosthesis comes through a required Maintenance Package, not a traditional warranty. Enrollment must begin within 30 days of final prosthesis delivery, and all maintenance visits must be completed at Regional Implant Centers unless your written agreement says otherwise. Our implant warranty page explains why there is no guarantee that implants or prosthetics will never need adjustment, repair or replacement. If you live in Sugar Land, Fulshear or Cypress, that means a few drives a year to Katy for as long as you are enrolled. Weigh that before you choose, the same way you would weigh the distance to any office.

Fitting treatment around work and family

The visits that need the most planning are the consultation, surgery day and the final-teeth appointments. The rest are usually short.

A few practical questions help. Who will drive you on surgery day, and can they stay with you that night? Can you take a few days off after surgery, and do you need a soft-food plan for the weeks while you heal? Do your physicians need to sign off before surgery, and how long do they usually take? If you care for children or a parent, who covers for you on surgery day? None of this is complicated, but sorting it out early makes the schedule feel much less heavy.

It also helps to know that our Katy office is not the only option within our practice. Our Hutto office near Austin offers the same kinds of full-arch treatment, but for patients in west Houston, Katy is the practical choice. And if something feels wrong between visits, call us. Our representatives are available to answer questions 24/7.

What to bring to your first visit

Bring anything that helps the team understand your health, your mouth and your benefits. It saves time and can save a second trip.

  • A list of your medicines and supplements, and the names of your physicians
  • Your dental and medical insurance cards
  • Any recent dental X-rays or CBCT scans, or the name of the office that has them
  • Written estimates or treatment plans from other offices, if you have them
  • Your current denture or partial, if you wear one

Your options at the Katy office

Full-arch care is not one product. Our Katy office offers traditional dentures, snap-on implant overdentures and fixed full-arch implant teeth, and the right choice depends on your bone, health and goals.

Some patients do well with a well-made denture, some with a removable denture that snaps onto implants, and some with fixed teeth that stay in. Plans are reviewed by specialists including Dr. Polyxeni Konti, a prosthodontist who sees patients at our Katy office, and Dr. Enrique Tabarini, an oral and maxillofacial surgeon. For patients with significant upper jaw bone loss, our team also offers zygomatic and pterygoid implants, performed by Dr. Tabarini and Dr. Dan Holtzclaw. They are not right for everyone, and the evaluation decides whether they apply. Anesthesia is handled by a dentist anesthesiologist, separate from the surgeon, and our post on sedation and comfort during dental implant surgery explains how anesthesia options are chosen.

Not every case can be treated with implants, and some need bone grafting or a staged plan first. Our article on why full-mouth rehabilitation requires more than implants covers the parts of a plan that go beyond the implants themselves.

How insurance and financing fit in

Medical insurance may help with some surgical parts of a full-arch plan, but at our office it does not pay for the implants, temporary teeth or final teeth, and coverage is never guaranteed.

At Regional Implant Centers, we bill medical insurance only for surgical professional services, such as extractions, bone grafting and alveoloplasty (smoothing and reshaping the bone). Implants, temporary teeth and the final prosthesis are billed to the patient separately. Only PPO plans work for out-of-network oral surgery benefits, and a PPO medical plan with oral surgery coverage may be worth checking, but please verify your benefits with our team before treatment. We cannot bill Federal Employee Program (FEP) Blue Cross Blue Shield plans. Our Insurance Advantage team reviews dental and medical benefits, and our insurance disclaimer explains that a benefit estimate or preauthorization is not a guarantee of payment.

Financing is available through independent third-party companies listed on our financing page, including Cherry, Proceed, CareCredit and Sunbit. Approval, rates and terms are set by each lender, not by Regional Implant Centers.

Questions to ask any office before you commit

Ask these wherever you consult, in Katy or closer to home, and ask for the answers in writing.

  1. Who will design my teeth, who will place the implants, and who will manage my anesthesia?
  2. Will I have a 3D scan before the plan is final?
  3. What will I wear while I heal, and when are the final teeth made?
  4. Where are the teeth made, and will the people making them see me in person?
  5. Roughly how many visits should I plan for, and which ones need a driver?
  6. What maintenance do you require after the final teeth, and where does it happen?
  7. If something breaks or feels wrong later, who do I call and how soon can I be seen?

Two offices that answer these clearly and in writing are much easier to compare than two quotes with a single number at the bottom.
